MISSION and MEMBERSHIP

 

St. Mary’s Mission Statement:

 

We the people of St Mary of the Assumption Church, a spirited Catholic community of faith, have but one work; to continue the mission of Jesus Christ in our parish, local community, diocese, country and the world.

 

 

Parish Council Purpose

and Scope:

 

To investigate pastoral matters, to consider them thoroughly, and to propose practical conclusions about them. 

 

The scope includes all practical matters of parish life.

 

 

Membership:

 

The Parish Pastoral Council consists of the Pastor, Parochial Vicar, Parish Administrator, and fifteen nominated and elected members.  Nominated and elected members are composed of eleven members of the community at large, and a minimum of four members representing the Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian communities.

 

Term shall be for three-years.

 

 

PARISH ACCOMPLISHMENTS   -   PASTORAL COUNCIL GOALS

 

Goals 2007:

 

1.     Increase revenue:

-   Stained Glass Window Program;

-   Finalize Realtor Referral Program;

-   Targeted fund raising events;

-   2007-2008 Stewardship “Treasure Campaign”; and

-   Evaluate need for church restoration capital campaign.

 

2.     Promote lifelong faith formation:

-   Expand Martyr’s mansion to two nights; and

-   Expand Adult Education Programs.

 

3.     Develop Religious education Programs encouraging family and personal participation:

-   Revamp Baptismal Ministry;

-   Introduce new middle school religious education program; and

-   Expansion of GIFT Program.

 

4.     Upgrade parish properties:

-   Bell Tower;

-   Evaluation of church exterior;

-   Church vestibule painting; and

-   Parish center renovations.

 

5.     Improve Parish  communications:

-   Welcoming packet for new members/residents;

-   Introduce new Stewardship “Time and Talent” Program; and

-   Complete and communicate results of Parish Survey.

 

 

Accomplishments 2006:

 

1.     Completed collection of Parish census data;

 

2.     Mailed Parish Year-in-Review packet, including financials, to parishioners;

 

3.     Completed Stewardship “Treasure” Campaign and developed new “Time and Treasure” Campaign;

 

4.     Adult education programs expanded;

 

5.     Confirmation process revamped;

 

6.      Increased Baptism frequency to twice per month;

 

7.      Expanded GIFT Program;

 

8.      Initiated Wednesday evening Eucharistic Adoration;

 

9.      Completed a Facilities Audit;

 

10. Formed Capital Working Group;

 

11. Developed Stained Glass Window Program;

 

12. Developed a Parish Newsletter;

 

13. Formed Welcoming Working Group;

 

14. Developed and distributed a Parish survey;

 

 

Accomplishments 2005:

 

  1. Completed census materials;

 

  1. Developed Parish Center Rental Policy;

 

  1. Evaluated and adjusted Religious Education fees;

 

  1. Developed new Stewardship Campaign – Informational mailings, pledge card, and witness talks;

 

  1. Evaluated and revised bulletin advertising fees;

 

  1. Recruited C.R.E. and Faith Formation coordinators;

 

  1. Redesigned youth religious education programs and expanded adult religious education programs;

 

  1. Instituted Generations of Faith;

 

  1. Formed Facilities Working Group to address immediate and long term parish facility needs;

 

  1. Expanded bulletin; and

 

  1. Expanded internet presence and use of E-mail to notify parishioners of events and pastoral messages.
