The Irish Round

Irish Round Tower

Irish Round Tower

The word “unique” has often come to mean simply “special”. The real meaning of the word is “one of a kind”. That accurately describes the Irish Round Tower at Saint Mary Cemetery in Milford, Massachusetts. Built more than one hundred years ago as a memorial to the Irish immigrants who settled in Central Massachusetts and built an extraordinary community based upon their faith, their culture and their desire to make a better life for themselves and their families. The cemetery itself goes back to the early 1830′s. The Irish Round Tower is the only example of this special Irish architecture in the entire North American continent. The rugged design built from native Milford Granite stands as a vivid reminder of the courage and creativity of the thousands of Irish who are buried here. The tower stands at the entrance from Route I 495 to the Blackstone Valley Heritage National Corridor.
